SEASCAPES [ACCORDING TO MAYA2009]
4 channel video installation, 2016
The installation consists of four videos. Each video displays a different artificial sea. These are listed in the library of MAYA2009, a 3D animation and rendering software. This software provides four Ocean Shaders, they simulate: calm sea, giant storm, high seas and a normal sea. The basic shapes for geometry; a circle, a square, a rectangle, and a triangle, added in each scene. The sound is computer generated, recorded in the 1950 ‘s, used as first music samples. The range of tunes could never be done by instruments. The work compares the thought process of man with that of the computer.

AKMAR NIJHOF lives and works in Amsterdam. Educated as an interior architect and 3D filmmaker at the Minerva Academy, Akmar Nijhof started her career as a motion and stage designer for Sony Pictures. She worked as an art director at several enterprises and projects for television. During her working period for the company she made independent work, mostly 3d animations that try to catch time and sculpt it into space and motion. Her works have been awarded and screened on film festivals around the globe.

SOUNDS OF SATELLITES
Space may be an anechoic place, but it is no longer empty. An expansive sound installation allows the visitor to experience the incorporeal but constant existence of men-made objects flying above our heads.
